Mechanical Design Engineer\nLocation: Southampton Hybrid / Remote (Must be UK based)\nSalary: £35,000 - £50,000\nContract: Full-Time, Permanent\n\n My client is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join a highly dynamic engineering environment focused on the development of cutting-edge deck hardware systems. This is an exceptional opportunity to play a pivotal role in delivering innovative, high-performance solutions, working closely with an experienced Head of Design and a team with backgrounds in High volume and technical engineering, including racing and the marine sector.\n\n This position offers genuine ownership across the full product lifecycle, from initial concept through to final installation, within a collaborative and fast-paced engineering team.\n\nThe Role\n\n As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead and contribute to the design and development of advanced mechanical systems. You will be responsible for driving projects from concept through to manufacture, ensuring high-quality engineering standards and practical, manufacturable designs.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\nCollaborate closely with the Head of Design to develop new products and expand existing product ranges\nLead both new and existing projects, taking ownership of the full design lifecycle\nDesign and deliver mechanical components and assemblies from concept through to production\nProduce high-quality 3D CAD models and fully defined 2D engineering drawings\nApply GD&T principles and appropriate tolerancing strategies to ensure manufacturability and reliable assembly\nPerform hand calculations and/or FEA to validate and support design decisions\nWork directly with production teams, incorporating Design for Manufacture feedback in real time\nSupport prototype builds and testing activitiesKey Expectations\n\nDesign for Manufacture: Ensure designs reflect real-world production constraints\nRapid Iteration: Work efficiently through design, review, and refinement cycles\nOwnership: Take full responsibility for your designs across the lifecycle\nCollaboration: Contribute effectively within a small, high-performing team\nAdaptability: Manage multiple priorities across both planned and reactive work \n\n Person Specification\n\n Essential:\n\nDegree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field\nTypically 3–5+ years of experience within a high-performance engineering environment\nStrong 3D CAD modelling and 2D drawing capability\nExcellent understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and mechanical assembly design\nHigh level of attention to detail in design and drafting\nComfortable working across the full design lifecycle from concept through to manufacture\nAbility to work independently while contributing to a team environment\nComfortable operating in a fast-paced setting with evolving prioritiesDesirable:\n\nExperience within sectors such as motorsport, aerospace, or marine engineering\nStrong understanding of material properties\nExperience with composite designThis is a rare opportunity to join a forward-thinking engineering team where your work will have a direct impact on innovative product development and delivery.
